MAHARSHI DAYANAND UNIVERSITY The emblem of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) has motifs of a DNA, a heritage tower and a solar panel placed on a cyan circle. This circle is ensconced by a blue circular border, on which the name of the university, year of inception and place are inscribed. These are supported by a pair of green laurels on sides and a blue banner, which carries its motto in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’. The motifs represent the domains of education offered by the university and the laurels refer to ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication and the colour blue symbolises serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty.

MOHANLAL SUKHADIA UNIVERSITY The circular emblem of Mohanlal Sukhadia University (MLSU) has a glowing sun on which the gear wheel is placed, which houses the motifs of a diagram of an atom, a shoot of a plant coming out of a seed and an open book. On the border between the gear wheel and the sun the motto of the university name of the university is inscribed in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ and the name of the university in Devanagari separated by a pair of swastikas. DR. SHYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE UNIVERSITY The emblem of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) is placed on a 32 petal lotus flower spread in a circle. The motifs of a triangle intersecting a circle houses an open book on which the year of its establishment is written. The national emblem Ashoka Chakra surmounts these motifs and a pair of laurels support them. All these are placed in a circle and the circle has a border with red outlines. The border carries the motto in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ and the name of the university in Devanagari. SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
