KARNATAKA STATE RURAL DEVELOPMENT AND PANCHAYAT RAJ UNIVERSITY The  light green circular emblem of Karnataka State Rural Development and Panchayat Raj University (KSRDPRU) has the motifs of Gear wheel, microscope, diploma, mortarboard hat, bullock cart, satellite antenna, wheel of charkha, a pair of laurels, group of humans and an open book written with its motto in Kannada. All these are ensconced in a white circular border with green outlines on which its name and place in Kannada and its acronym are written. The seal is crested by the emblem of the State of Karnataka. Below the seal on a white banner its tagline ‘Rural Roots Global Heights’ is inscribed. MGM UNIVERSITY The insignia of MGM University (MGMU) in the tones of grey and brown has a charkha forming the backdrop with a boy leading Mahatma Gandhi holding a stick. Alongside the motif its motto in Sanskrit ‘अप्पो दीपो भव’ meaning ‘Be Your Own Lamp’ is inscribed. Below this the name of the university is written in Devanagari and English. The colour grey denotes strength, longevity, unemotional, detached, balanced and impartial, power, influence, wisdom and intelligence and the colour brown denotes earthiness, simplicity, stability, humility, warmth, reliability, endurance, timelessness and tradition. The Charkha is the symbol of self reliance and constant striving towards prosperity.

MAHATMA GANDHI UNIVERSITY KOTTAYAM

MAHATMA GANDHI UNIVERSITY KOTTAYAM The brown colour circular insignia of the Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam (MGUK) in  Kerala has a traditional spinning wheel of the charkha representing Mahatma Gandhi’s values in a circle. These are ensconced by a circular border, which carries its name and place. At the bottom on a bunch of palm leaf manuscripts its motto in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया अमृतमश्नुते’ (Verse 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Knowledge Enjoys Immortality’ is inscribed. The charkha or spinning wheel, is a symbol of self-sufficiency, freedom and resilience. The charkha was popularised by Mahatma Gandhi, who used it as a metaphor for ancient work ethics and a symbol of economic and social reaction to British rule. The traditional lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity.

THE GANDHIGRAM RURAL INSTITUTE Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI), founded by two dedicated disciples and contemporaries of Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. G. Ramachandran and Dr. T.S. Soundaram RamachandranIt earned the status of Deemed University in 1976. The red, green and blue colour stadium shaped emblem of GRI has a number of motifs ensconced in a border with red border lines. Inside the border line it has further been divided into five rectangles with one in the centre and other four on each of its four sides. The central box has an open book ensconced by a nine petalled lotus surrounded by a circular border of two lines. The boxes above and below this rectangle have ‘kolam’ patterns and the boxes on the left and the right each have two sets of concentric connected squares. The spaces in the corners have a caduceus, the staff of Hermes staff entwined with a snake, a plough, a charkha and a traditional lamp. The border around these has the name of the university written in green

MAHATMA GANDHI CENTRAL UNIVERSITY

MAHATMA GANDHI CENTRAL UNIVERSITY Mahatma Gandhi Central University (MGCU) came into existence by an Act of Parliament, Central Universities (Amendment) Act 2014 (No. 35 of 2014). The University became functional on February 3, 2016. MGCU is situated in Motihari (Bankat), on National Highway 28. The logo of MGCUB is a combination of charkha and motto of the name of Mahatma Gandhi Central University, Bihar written as, ‘मयि श्री: श्र्यताम् येशः’. The Charkha is wrapping tricolour yarn spun by its dynamic activities symbolising our national flag, making it a university of national importance. 150 YEARS OF CELEBRATING MAHATMA In 2019, the nation has celebrated 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a man who inspired all to fight against colonial rule. Born on October 2, 1869, the Father of the Nation is known for his struggles for non-violence, equality and freedom. The logo for this occasion is comprising of motif of the Charkha, an outlined abstract picture of Mahatma Gandhi and the word mark '150 years of celebrating Mahatma'. The charkha is integrated with the number of years of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
