HIMACHAL PRADESH TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY The emblem of Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU) has ‘t’ and ‘u’ with a traditional lamp and open book transforming into a white lotus placed within an orange circular gear forming the border. The gear is inscribed with the name of the university in Devanagari and English. Below the gear, on a blue banner its motto in Sanskrit ‘कर्मणि व्यच्ज्यते प्रज्ञा’ meaning ‘Wisdom is Expressed in Action’ is inscribed. The lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the open book represents knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the gear wheel represents interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the colour orange symbolises energy, vitality, creativity, inspiration, joy and

UNIVERSITY OF KERALA The emblem of the University of Kerala (UoK) has a lotus housing the motifs of a conch or shankha and a reading stand with palm leaf manuscript. Below the lotus its motto in Sanskrit ‘कर्मणि व्यज्यते प्रज्ञा’ (Verse 1.412, Panchatantra) meaning ‘Wisdom is Expressed in Action’ is inscribed. The lotus symbolises purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the conch or shankha is considered sacred in Hinduism as the emblem of Lord Vishnu and Buddhism and the palm leaf manuscript denotes education, learning, knowledge and wisdom.
