C HENNAI MATHEMATICAL INSTITUTE Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) is a centre of excellence for teaching and research in the mathematical sciences. Founded in 1989 as part of the SPIC Science Foundation, it has been an autonomous institute since 1996. The logo of the institute is written like a mathematical formula with superscript and subscript in blue as a monogram using its acronym ‘cmi’. On its right its name is written using sans serif capitals with variable stroke thickness in three lines. The colour blue symbolises serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty, which are the essential qualities of a mathematician.

DAKSHINA CHITRA MUSEUM Dakshina Chitra Museum is a cross cultural living museum of art, architecture, lifestyles, crafts and performing arts of South India. It is a project of Madras Craft Foundation, an NGO was opened to the public on December 14, 1996 and is located overlooking the Bay of Bengal, at Muttukadu, near Chennai. The authentic homes in a regional vernacular style are purchased, taken down, transported and reconstructed by artisans (Stapathis) of the regions from where the houses came. Its insignia has a traditional ‘kolam’ made using a single intersecting line filled with four dots in brown colour on an orange square. Its name is written on top and its slogan is written below the kolam. The four triangles formed by the motif represent each of the four States of Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka. A Printing Technology Section was started in the Madras Trades School, a Government Institution conducting certificate courses in a few industrial trades. With the opening of the printing section, a part-time certificate course of four year duration in printing technology was introduced. This was the first ever organised and approved training course in printing technology in India. In the year 1931, the Trades School became the Government School of Technology and in 1938, the four year certificate course was upgraded to a full fledged Diploma course of five years duration. INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY MADRAS The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) is known both nationally and internationally for excellence in technical education, basic and applied research, innovation, entrepreneurship and industrial consultancy. In 1956, the German Government offered technical assistance for establishing an institute of higher education in engineering in India. The first Indo-German agreement in Bonn, West Germany for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Technology at Madras was signed in 1959. The first Indo-German Agreement provided for the services of German professors and five foremen, training facilities for 20 Indian faculty members and the supply of scientific and technical equipment for the establishment of the Central Workshop and 20 laboratories at IIT Madras. THE MADRAS REGIMENT

THE MADRAS REGIMENT ‘In the path of duty and self-sacrifice, giving their lives that we might live in freedom’. The Madras Regiment was initially formed as the Madras European Regiment in the 1660s by the East India Company as the second company established in India. However, it was formed as a battalion in 1748 under the command of Major Stringer Lawrence. Many well-known British officers have commanded this regiment; Robert Clive is one among them. This regiment has fought the Carnatic wars, which were fought in South India. The elephant crest symbolizes its gallantry in the Battle of Assaye under Arthur Wellesley, later Duke of Wellington. After independence, the infantry battalions of the Travancore ‘Nair Pattalam’, Cochin and Mysore State forces were amalgamated into the Madras Regiment. KASHI TAMIL SANGAMAM

KASHI TAMIL SANGAMAM The Ministry of Education, Government of India will organise 'Kashi Tamil Sangamam' - a month long programme from November 16, 2022 - to rediscover the centuries-old bond of knowledge and ancient civilizational linkage between Varanasi and Tamilnadu. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed that over 2400 Tamils in twelve groups from diverse sections of society, including academics, spiritualism, philosophy, trade and commerce, agriculture, entrepreneurship, arts and artisanship will visit Kashi for eight days to get familiarised with the ancient knowledge shared by these two ancient cities. These people will come from Rameswaram, Chennai and Coimbatore. Seminars, discussions and lectures will be held during the programme. The programme will be organised under the framework of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat'. IIT-Madras and Banaras Hindu University are the hosting partners of this mega event. MADRAS FERTILIZERS LIMITED Madras Fertilizers Limited (MFL) was incorporated in December 1966 as a joint venture between Government of India and Amoco India Incorporation of USA-AMOCO with government holding 51% of the equity share capital. Subsequent to the issue of rights shares in 1994 for part financing the project, the holding government and NIOC stands at 69.78% and 30.22 % . During 1997, MFL has gone for public issue of 2,86,30,000 shares. Its green coloured logo has MFL overwritten on a silhouted map of south India. Above this is the acronym in Devanagiri separated by a parting line.

GREATER CHENNAI CORPORATION The Greater Chennai Corporation (previously Madras) (GCC)is the Oldest Municipal Institution in India established on the September 29, 1688. A charter was issued on the December 30, 1607 by East India Company constituting the ‘Town of Fort St. George’ and all the territories thereunto belonging, not exceeding the distance of ten miles from the Fort, into a Corporation. The Parliamentary Act of 1792 gave the Corporation power to levy Municipal Taxes in the City. The Municipal administration properly commenced from the Parliamentary Act, 1792 making provision for the good order and administration of the city. The Municipal Act has been amended introducing from time to time major changes in the constitution and powers of the Corporation. The Madras Municipal Corporation Act, 1919 (as amended) provides the basic Statutory authority for the administration now.
