BIHAR TOURISM The Bihar Tourism which is the brand name of Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) has a peepal tree and lotus as its pictorial motifs in green colour supported by its name and tagline ‘Blissful Bihar’. The peepal tree is in the state emblem of Bihar and it represents the spiritual connect with the State, the lotus is considered by the people of Bihar, especially Hindus Jains and Buddhists and both these elements represent the Bihar’s spiritual and religious tourist places and destinations, which are innumerable. Below the motif, the name of the brand is written in orange and green in sans serif capitals. At the bottom its tagline ‘Blissful Bihar’ is written in brush strokes.

MAGADH UNIVERSITY

MAGADH UNIVERSITY Magadh University, Bodh Gaya, established on March 1, 1962 is one of the largest universities in Bihar. This university is a brainchild of Shri Satyendra Narayan Singh and was built on the land donated by the Mahant of Bodh-Gaya math Shri Satanand Giri in 1964. The emblem of the university is a rectangle in portrait form in red colour holding the motifs of Buddha vihara in the backdrop of a lotus holding the image of Bodhi tree and supported on both sides by a pair of wheels. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘अमृतं तु विद्या’ meaning ‘Knowledge is Nectar’ is written on the border at the top and the border at the bottom holds its name in Devanagari. The vihara denotes the Bodh Gaya where Lord Buddha attained realisation and the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty. SANCHI UNIVERSITY OF BUDDHIST-INDIC STUDIES On September 21, 2012 the then President of Sri Lanka Mahindra Rajapaksa laid the foundation stone of the Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies (SUBIS) together with the former Prime Minister of Bhutan Jigme Yoser Thinley on a hillock near Sanchi. The crest of the university in earthy colours of brown and green has a Bodhi or peepal tree with Gautama Buddha sitting beneath covered by a historical arch with a crest. At the bottom of the emblem the motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘एष धर्मः सनातनः’(Subhashitani Slokas 7) ‘The Eternal Truth’ is written. The Bodhi or peepal tree is a powerful symbol in Buddhism as it represents a human being's capacity to attain enlightenment and find the joy and peace of Nirvana. BABASAHEB BHIMRAO AMBEDKAR UNIVERSITY The Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University was established by an Act passed by the parliament (No. 58 of 1994). The university came into existence on January 10, 1996. The blue emblem of the university has a shield which has a peepal tree surrounded by a fence symbolising enlightenment, supported by prayer beads and Buddhist pillars on either side. The name of the university is written atop the shield in four lines. Below the shield, its place is written; its motto ‘प्रज्ञा शील करुणा’ meaning ‘Wisdom Modesty Compassion’ and the year of establishment are written.

CENTRAL UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH BIHAR Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), Gaya, India, is one among fifty four such universities of the Central Government. It was established as Central University of Bihar (CUB) and the name since changed by the Central Universities (Amendment) Act, 2014 to Central University of South Bihar (CUSB). The Executive Council of the Central University of Bihar passed a resolution and accepted the logo of the university on November 20, 2010. The new logo of the university came into existence in August, 2018. The logo of the University is an adaptation of a peepal tree symbolising the rich culture of Bihar. It is a visual identity of the university representing education, wisdom and enlightenment. EMBLEM OF BIHAR In the 16th century, the Mughal emperor Akbar annexed Bihar and Bengal. With the decline of the Mughals, Bihar passed under the control of the Nawabs of Bengal. After the Battle of Buxar in1764, the British East India Company obtained the diwani rights for Bihar, Bengal and Orissa. In 1912, the province of Bihar and Orissa was made into separate provinces. The state of Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in the year 2000. Initially Bihar used the Ashoka Capital surrounded with the title of the State as its emblem. The current emblem of Bihar shows a peepal tree rising from a socle with a text in ancient Urdu, between two swastikas. The Sacred Fig tree (Ficus religiosa - Moraceae) located in Bodh Gaya - ‘Bodhi’, also known as Bo (from the Sinhalese Bo), under which Siddhartha Gautama, the founder of Buddhism is supposed to have achieved enlightenment or Bodhi.
