PONDICHERRY UNIVERSITY Pondicherry University, a Central University, was established in 1985 by an Act of Parliament with the objective to disseminate and advance knowledge by providing learning and research facilities on par with international standards in all branches of study. Its circular emblem has a lotus floating in a waterbody under the glowing sun. Below this, its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ meaning from ‘Darkness to Light’ is written. These are ensconced in a circle and bordered by its name. At the bottom of the circle, its tagline in Tamil ‘ஒளி பரவ’, in Latin ‘Vers La Lumiere’ meaning ‘Let the Light Spread’ is written.
