NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY TIRUCHIRAPALLY, TAMILNADU The National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli was formerly known as REC Tiruchirappallii. It is one among the 31 NITs and its basic structure of organisation, functions and powers of the Institute are briefed in the NIT Acts and Statutes. NIT Tiruchirappalli started with three engineering branches, namely, Electrical, Mechanical and Civil. In its emblem the three branches are represented by the transmission tower, Archimedes lifting the earth with a lever and a multi-storied structure. At the bottom of the cog wheel is the Sanskrit phrase - 'Satyameva Jayate' meaning, 'Truth Alone Triumphs'. The two lighted lamps on either side symbolise the light of knowledge and truth. TAMILNADU AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) had its genesis from establishment of an Agricultural School at Saidapet, Madras, Tamil Nadu, as early as 1868 and it was later relocated at Coimbatore. In 1920 it was affiliated to Madras University. TNAU assumed full responsibilities of Agricultural Education and Research and supported the State Agricultural Department by delivering research products. Till 1946, the Agricultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore, was the only Institute for Agricultural Education for the whole of South India. Tamil Nadu Agricultural University was established in 1971. Its circular emblem has a gopuram supported by an orange lotus in a green background. KASHI TAMIL SANGAMAM

KASHI TAMIL SANGAMAM The Ministry of Education, Government of India will organise 'Kashi Tamil Sangamam' - a month long programme from November 16, 2022 - to rediscover the centuries-old bond of knowledge and ancient civilizational linkage between Varanasi and Tamilnadu. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan informed that over 2400 Tamils in twelve groups from diverse sections of society, including academics, spiritualism, philosophy, trade and commerce, agriculture, entrepreneurship, arts and artisanship will visit Kashi for eight days to get familiarised with the ancient knowledge shared by these two ancient cities. These people will come from Rameswaram, Chennai and Coimbatore. Seminars, discussions and lectures will be held during the programme. The programme will be organised under the framework of 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat'. IIT-Madras and Banaras Hindu University are the hosting partners of this mega event. CHENNAI METRO RAIL PROJECT

CHENNAI METRO RAIL PROJECT The Government of Tamil Nadu created a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for implementing the Chennai Metro Rail Project. This SPV named as Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) was incorporated on December 3, 2007 under the Companies Act. It has now been converted into a Joint Venture of Government of India and Government of Tamil Nadu with equal equity holding. Its ultramarine blue emblem made up of geometrical shapes has a pair of circular lines representing ‘C’s, embellished with a stylised ‘M’. The parallel blue strokes represent tracks and the two vortexes represent elevation and the trough represents underground routes.

NEYVELI LIGNITE CORPORATION LIMITED Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC) is under the Department of Coal with registered office at Chennai and corporate office at Neyveli in Tamilnadu. The company is engaged in exploitation and excavation of lignite, generation of thermal power and also sale of raw lignite. In 1928, occurrence of ‘peat’ a low calorific fuel of coal family near point calimere was reported to the then Madras Government, by the sub-collector of Thanjavur Mr. Nelson. Its blue colour logo has N, L and C written in a interwined and superimposed within a triangle, which is ensconced in a circular gear wheel. At the bottom is its tagline ‘Creating Wealth for Wellbeing'.

TAMILNADU POLICE In 1659 Pedda Naik was engaged by the British to Guard the town of Madraspatanam with the assistance of peons. The system was the remnant of the ‘Kaval’ organization. Board of Police constituted by the then Governor Josios DuPre to deal with removal of public nuisance and maintenance of public health and order in 1770. In 1856 Police Act XII was passed by Legislative Council of the Governor General. J.C. Boudlerson became the first Commissioner of Police under the new Act. In 1906 Criminal Investigation Department was established. F. Fawcett was appointed as DIG. In 2008 Tamilnadu Police Celebrated Sesquicentennial -150 Years. EMBLEM OF TAMILNADU The State Emblem of Tamilnadu has an adaptation from the he remarkable landmark of Srivilliputhur’s 11-tiered tower structure of 192 feet high - ‘gopuram’ dedicated to the Lord of Srivilliputhur, known as Vatapatrasayee. It is said to have been built by Periyaazhvar, believed to be the father-in-law of the Temple Deity, with a purse of gold that he won in debates held in the palace of Pandya King Vallabhadeva. The artist behind this monogram was Prof. R. Krishna Rao. Born in 1915, he completed his schooling in Madurai and in 1942, joined the Government School of Arts and Crafts in Madras where he was allowed to complete the five-year course in three years as he was outstanding in his work. In 1968, he was appointed the Principal of the Government School of Arts and Crafts in Madras. In 1972, Krishna Rao joined Kalakshetra, Madras, as Director, Department of Art.
