PERIYAR UNIVERSITY
PERIYAR UNIVERSITY Periyar University was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu on September 17, 1997 through the provisions of the Periyar University Act, 1997 to serve the Salem, Namakkal, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts. The university strives to achieve the maxim inscribed in its emblem ‘அறிவால் விளையும் உலகு’ meaning ‘Wisdom Maketh the World’. The circular emblem of the university has a glowing torch supported by an open book and a portrait of EVR. These motifs are ensconced by a circular border with pink outline which carries the name and place of the university. Below the circle on a cyan banner its motto is written in Tamil. The torch is an emblem of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power and the open book symbolises knowledge, wisdom and education.
