KAZI NAZRUL UNIVERSITY The emblem of Kazi Nazrul University (KNU) has a circle with a torch and a tanpura circumscribed by its name in Bengali and English. These are ensconced by a red star with 24 points and supported by a banner bearing its motto in Sanskrit which is an extract from the Kathopanishad ‘विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते’, (Shloka 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Immortality is Gained from Learning’.The torch with flame is an emblem of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and regenerative power; the tanpura symbolises performing arts and culture and the red star symbolises the sun, which denotes life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity.

BHATKHANDE SANSKRITI VISHWAVIDYALAYA In 1926, Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande established a music school in Lucknow with the help and co-operation of Rai Umanath Bali and Rai Rajeshwar Bali and other music patrons of Lucknow, in the State of Awadh. The Government of India by a notification on October 24, 2000, declared this institute as ‘Deemed University’. It is renamed as Bhatkhande Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya. Its circular emblem has a tanpura supporting its acronym in Devanagari in a circle, with drops of water splashing symbolising the effects of music. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘नादाधीन जगतू’ meaning ‘Self Conceited’ is written below the music instrument. It is ensconced in a running circular design of lotus pattern. These are circumscribed by a border which carries the name of the institute in Devanagari and English. An orange coloured circular border line is holding all the elements together.
