UNIVERSITY OF KERALA The emblem of the University of Kerala (UoK) has a lotus housing the motifs of a conch or shankha and a reading stand with palm leaf manuscript. Below the lotus its motto in Sanskrit ‘कर्मणि व्यज्यते प्रज्ञा’ (Verse 1.412, Panchatantra) meaning ‘Wisdom is Expressed in Action’ is inscribed. The lotus symbolises purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the conch or shankha is considered sacred in Hinduism as the emblem of Lord Vishnu and Buddhism and the palm leaf manuscript denotes education, learning, knowledge and wisdom.

SHREE SOMNATH SANSKRIT UNIVERSITY Shree Somnath Sanskrit University (SSSU) was created by the Gujarat State government through the Shree Somnath Sanskrit University Act in 2005 for the research and teaching of Sanskrit literature. The emblem of the university has a traditional lamp placed on a bunch of palm leaf manuscripts and placed in a yellow circle with an orange border. It is ensconced by a yellow and orange border on which its name and place is written in Devanagari. Below the circle, on a banner, the motto of the university is inscribed with a quote from Kalidasa’s Meghdootam 20. It reads in Sanskrit ‘पूर्णता गौरवाय’ meaning ‘Fullness Contributes to Heaviness and the Best (Respect)’. The palm leaf manuscript symbolises the traditional knowledge and wisdom; the traditional lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the colour yellow denotes happiness, energy, vitality, focus and creativity and orange
