SARDAR VALLABHBHAI NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY SURAT This Institute was established in 1961 as one of the RECs for imparting technical education in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in the year 1983-84. The Central Government on the advice of the University Grants Commission, has declared the Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering & Technology (SVREC), Surat to Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat with status of ‘Deemed University’ with effect from December 4, 2002. Its emblem has a circle divided into four quadrants. One quadrant houses an image of industry and chimney, second quadrant houses a transmission tower, the third a flying rocket and the fourth one a dam. This is surrendered by a gear wheel with a border, on which the name of the institute and place are written. It is supported by a laurel on both sides. At the bottom its motto in Sanskrit ‘विज्ञानम सारथिनः श्याथ’ is written on a white border

NATIONAL COUNCIL OF SCIENCE MUSEUMS National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) is the largest network of science centres and museums under a single administrative umbrella  in the world. The first science museum, Birla Industrial and Technological Museum (BITM), Kolkata under CSIR, was opened on May 2, 1959. In July 1965 the second science museum, Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM) was opened in Bangalore. After Kolkata and Bangalore, the work for the third centre at Mumbai was taken up in 1974. As the popularisation of science and technology through the Science Museums grew in scope and size, the Union Planning Commission constituted a Task Force in early 1970’s to assess the activities of the Science Museums. Task Force recommended to set up Science Museums in different parts of the country at National, State and District levels and also recommended formation of a central coordinating agency. DIRECTORATE OF FORENSIC SCIENCE SERVICES During 1983, the then Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet (SAC-C) under the overall guidance of an Expert Committee chaired by Prof. M. M. Sharma, FRS, recommended that the laboratories in Delhi, Calcutta and Hyderabad must be developed as Science and Technology institutions, functioning in an autonomous fashion. Accordingly, the Government of India declared the forensic science institutions, as Science and Technology institutions. Based on the observations of the Expert Group of the SAC-C and Bureau of Police Research and Development  - BPR&D evolved a master plan for restructuring each Central Forensic Science Laboratory - CFSL of the BPR&D into fifteen scientific divisions. In the first phase, the three Central Forensic Science Laboratories at Calcutta, Hyderabad, and Chandigarh were restructured into six scientific division viz. NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF CRIMINOLOGY & FORENSIC SCIENCE The National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science - NICFS (formerly the ‘Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science’) came into existence on 4th January, 1972 on the recommendations of a Committee appointed by the University Grants Commission to look into the applied aspects of education, training and research in the fields of Criminology and Forensic Science to commensurate with the growing needs of the country in general and the Criminal Justice System in India in particular.  In September, 1976, the Institute was constituted as a separate department under the Ministry of Home Affairs headed by a full time Director.
