The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) was established in 1956, with the assistance of the German Government. The circular logo of IITM in brown, khaki and red has a burning lamp in the middle with a lotus in bloom within its flame. This is supported by a flash of lightning. This is ensconced by a border, in which the name of the institution is written along with its tagline ‘सिद्धिर्भवति कर्मजा‘ in Sanskrit meaning ‘Success Comes through Hard work’.
