BIRLA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY & SCIENCE, PILANI
The Birla Institute of Technology & Science, BITS Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education. The Institute is a dream come true for its founder late Mr G.D. Birla. BITS is located in the Vidya Vihar campus adjacent to the town of Pilani in Rajasthan. Its circular emblem with supporting banners has yellow, orange, red, light blue and dark blue colours. The tricolour circle is divided into three segments of which one has a chemical structure, the other has a lotus and the third one has a rocket superimposed with a designated path. This circle is ensconced in a gear wheel in an orange background. Atop this is the banner with the name of the institution and at the bottom is the slogan in Sanskrit 'ज्ञानं परमं बलम्' meaning ‘Knowledge is Supreme Power’.

Mangos are the sweetest of fruits, symbolizing auspiciousness and the happy fulfillment of legitimate worldly desires. In Sanskrit the design is known as mankolam and has long been used in India. In Tamil, ‘ma’ means Mango and kolam means rangoli pattern, suggesting a possible Tamil origin for the Sanskrit word.

PARAVANI The Paravani, Mayil, Mayura or the peacock is the vahana or vehicle of the Lord Karthikeya, Murugan, Subrahmanya, Skanda, Kumara, Saravana, Arumukha, Devasenapati, Shanmukha, Kathirvela, Guha or Swaminatha. The legend has it that the demon king Surapadman, with the boon he received from the gods had become invincible. He believed that he was immortal and began tormenting all across the universe. Lord Kartikeya confronted the Surapadman and he evaded the Lord’s attacks. The demon transformed himself into a large tree near Tiruchendur. Lord Kartikeya using his Vel, the divine spear struck the tree and split Surapadman into two halves. The demon sought forgiveness from the Lord and transformed the halves into Mayil or peacock and a rooster.
