The emblem of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) has motifs of a DNA, a heritage tower and a solar panel placed on a cyan circle. This circle is ensconced by a blue circular border, on which the name of the university, year of inception and place are inscribed. These are supported by a pair of green laurels on sides and a blue banner, which carries its motto in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’. The motifs represent the domains of education offered by the university and the laurels refer to ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication and the colour blue symbolises serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty.
