ULUKA

ULUKA In Hinduism Uluka, Pechaka or the owl is believed as one of the vahanas or vehicles of Goddess of Wealth Lakshmi along with lotus and elephant. The Uluka is considered as the symbol of wisdom, patience and intelligence which can foretell events. The Uluka is also known as ‘Stithi Prajna’ or ‘Unwavering in One’s Decision’. It symbolises and warns one not to get trapped by the ignorance of the splendour of wealth and instead seek inner wisdom. A barn or white owl entering a home is considered as auspicious, as its flapping of wings is considered related to flow of money. The owl also symbolises patience, intelligence and wisdom.

INDIAN BUREAU OF MINES The emblem of Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) has the motifs of a mine with miners and their tools, equipment, wheelbarrow and headframe placed inside a circle with a green border. The border is inscribed with its name in Devanagari and English. The seal is crested by the National Emblem, the Lion Capital and supported by a pair of crossed pickaxes. At the bottom on a blue rectangular panel, its motto in Sanskrit ‘सतत कार्यरत’ and ‘On With the Job’ are written.

GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA The oval shaped emblem of Geological Survey of India (GSI) has the National Emblem of Lion Capital supported by a pair of crossed sledgehammers and a red banner bearing the National Motto in Devanagari ‘सत्यमेव जयते’ meaning ‘Truth Alone Triumphs’ and its year of inception. The name of the institution in English surmounts the motifs. All these are ensconced by a cyan oval border inscribed with its name in Devanagari and a pair of laurels. The sledgehammers represent mining, especially iron ore mining and the laurels refer to ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication.

These are supported by four sets of concentric circular strokes in cyan. Its name is written in Devanagari and in English. All these are ensconced by a cyan circle. On a panel below the circle its acronym is written in Devanagari and English. The colour cyan represents sky, hope and spring, peace, tranquillity, calmness, relaxation and balance.

GADA In Hinduism Gada or the mace is a symbolising a weapon and strength. It is held by Lord Vishnu, Lord Balarama, Lord Hanuman, Bhima, Karna, Shalya, Duryodhana, Jarasandha and others. It was used in battles and wars.  The gada of Lord Vishnu is called Kaumodaki. It signifies strength and power. It refers to valour, devotion, power to protect righteousness or dharma, great strength, destructor of obstacles, eliminator of evils and remover of fear from the minds of the devotees.

KUKKUṬADHVAJA

KUKKUṬADHVAJA The emblem on the flag of Lord Karthikeya, Murugan, Subrahmanya, Skanda, Kumara, Saravana, Arumukha, Devasenapati, Shanmukha, Kathirvela, Guha or Swaminatha is a rooster called Kukkuta or Seval. The flag is called Kukkuṭadhvaja or Seval Kodi. The image of Lord Kartikeya is always depicted with Kukkutadhvaja in one hand and the other hand with his Vel or spear. The legend has it that the demon king Surapadman, with the boon he received from the gods had become invincible. He believed that he was immortal and began tormenting all across the universe. Lord Kartikeya confronted the Surapadman and he evaded the Lord’s attacks. The demon transformed himself into a large tree near Tiruchendur. Lord Kartikeya using his Vel, the divine spear struck the tree and split Surapadman into two halves. The demon sought forgiveness from the Lord and transformed the halves into Mayil or peacock and a rooster. Lord Kartikeya, by his grace, blessed Surapadman by adopting  the Mayil...

VEL

VEL The Vel or divine spear of Lord Karthikeya, Murugan, Subrahmanya, Skanda, Kumara, Saravana, Arumukha, Devasenapati, Shanmukha, Kathirvela, Guha or Swaminatha represents the following. It is also called Vetri Vel or Veera Vel. Victory of Good: The Vel represents the triumph of good Lord Kartikeya over the evil demons as a warrior against negative forces. The vel signifies the victory of good over evil and dharma or righteousness. Wisdom: The pointed tip of the Vel symbolises spiritual knowledge, wisdom and enlightenment. The spear pierces the veil of ignorance towards wisdom. Power: The Vel also refers to the divine power and authority by which the Lord Muruga protects his devotees and removes their hardships. Strength and Unity: The harmony of spiritual and physical strength and unity of different aspects of life are depicted by the Vel.
