GOVERNMENT THANJAVUR MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL (TMCTN)
GOVERNMENT THANJAVUR MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL (TMCTN) The emblem of Government Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital (TMCTN) features the Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents supported ensconced by a pair of green laurels. The Staff is crested by the image of Sri Brihadiswara Temple, which is an architectural masterpiece and a world heritage. The motifs are ensconced by a blue circular border inscribed with the name of the college. On a red banner placed below the seal, the motto of the college ‘Seek Learn Serve’ is inscribed. The staff with the snake has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession. It originates from the story of Asclepius, who was revered by the ancient Greeks as a god of healing and whose cult involved the use of snakes.
