BISHOP HEBER COLLEGE (BHC) The emblem of Bishop Heber College (BHC) features a shield inscribed with the motifs of a red cross, Rockfort of Tiruchirapalli and a pair of books crested by pelican in her piety and supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Latin ‘ Nisi Dominus Frustra ’ ( Psalm 127, Bible ) meaning ‘Without the Lord, [it is] in Vain’. The cross refers to the religious affiliation of the college; the Rockfort is the iconic symbol of the city of Tiruchirapalli; the books refer to education, knowledge, learning and wisdom; and the pelican in her piety is a traditional Christian symbol of self-sacrifice, charity, and the Eucharist. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery.
