DR. PURATCHI THALAIVAR M.G.R. GOVERNMENT ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE, KUDAVASAL (GASC KUDAVASAL) The emblem of Dr. Puratchi Thalaivar M.G.R. Government Arts and Science College, Kudavasal (GASC Kudavasal) features the motifs of a pair of dancing couple, a ‘Yāl’ (a traditional lyre), a set of palm leaf manuscripts, the gopuram of Sri Koneswarar Temple, the National Emblem (Lion Capital), an open book and a pair of supporting laurels. The book is inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘கற்கை நன்றே’ (35, VetriVerkkai , Avvaiyar) meaning ‘Good to Study’ and surmounted by a decorative blue banner inscribed with the name and place of the college. The motifs of the dancing pair and the ‘Yāl’ (a traditional lyre) refers to the rich cultural heritage and tradition of the place of the college; the gopuram refers to divine blessings and guidance; the palm leaf manuscripts refer to traditional knowledge, heritage, education, learning and wisdom; and the laurels are symbols of ceremon...
