H.H. THE RAJAHS COLLEGE (AUTONOMOUS), PUDUKKOTTAI (HHRC) The emblem of H.H. The Rajahs College (Autonomous), Pudukkottai (HHRC) features a shield housing the coat of arms of Pudukkottai Kingdom consisting of a lion holding a flag and Lord Hanuman carrying the mountain of Dronagiri and a rising sun from waters. Below the shield, on a banner, the motto of the college in Tamil ‘இருளிலிருந்து ஒளியை நோக்கி’ meaning ‘From Darkness to Light’ is inscribed. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; and the rising sun represents life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity. The Pudukkottai Kingdom's arms (coat of arms) features a shield with four gold quarters, alternating with red and green bars, topped by the Crown of Pudukkottai. The state crest, often used on flags, was a lion holding a silver staff with a Hanuman flag. The ruling Tondaiman dynasty used these symbols to represent their authority from 1680 to 1948.
