GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE THIRUVALLUR (GMC THIRUVALLUR) The emblem of Government Medical College Thiruvallur (GMC Thiruvallur) features a circular image of the historic Veeraraghava Perumal Temple of Thiruvallur supporting the Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with an entwined serpent, crested by a a circle with three bael (bilva) leaves, supported by Saraswati Yantra at the bottom and a pair of wings on the sides. The motifs are circumscribed by the name and place of the college and ensconced by a wreath. Below the seal, on a green banner the motto of the college ‘Care Compassion Cure’ is written. The staff with snakes has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession; the bael leaves refer to the three ‘Guna’s of Sattva (goodness ot purity), Rajas (passion or activity), and Tamas (inertia or darkness), representing the forces shaping the universe and human life; the Saraswati Yantra represents Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, wisdom, education, and th...
