GOVERNMENT ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE, SANKARANKOVIL (GASC SKOVIL) The emblem of Government Arts and Science College, Sankarankovil (GASC SKovil) features a shield housing the gopuram of Sri Sankara Narayanasamy Temple supported by a traditional lamp and an open book with its motto in Tamil ‘கல்வியே மேன்மை’ meaning ‘Education is Excellence’ written at the bottom. The shield is ensconced by a green circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. The gopuram of Sri Sankara Narayanasamy Temple refers to heritage and history and divine blessings and grace; the shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; and the book refers to learning, education, knowledge and wisdom.
