GOVERNMENT ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, ORATHANADU (GASCWOND) The emblem of Government Arts and Science College for Women, Orathanadu (GASCWOND) features a circle housing the image of the gopuram of Sri Kasi Viswanathar temple with a background of Cauvery river and the motifs of a pair of ladies looking at their digital readers, an open book and a traditional lamp. The circle is ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name of the college and its place. Below the seal, on a banner, the motto of the college in Tamil ‘கைப்பொருள் தன்னின் மெய்ப்பொருள் கல்வி’ (22, Kondraivendhan, Avvaiyar) meaning ‘True Wealth is the Education one has Acquired, rather than the Wealth one Possess’ is inscribed. The gopuram symbolises divine blessings and guidance; the river and the paddy fields denote agriculture and irrigation; the women symbolises the beneficiaries of the college; the book refers to learning, knowledge, education and wisdom; and the lamp symbolises light, illuminatio...
