GOVERNMENT ARTS COLLEGE (AUTONOMOUS), KUMBAKONAM (GASCAKUM) The emblem of Government Arts College (Autonomous), Kumbakonam (GASCAKUM) features a shield housing the motifs of a ‘kuthuthuvilakku’ (a traditional lamp), a book reading stand, a hand holding a ‘karlakattai’ ((a wooden club) and the image of the college. The shield is surmounted by Dharma Chakra supported by a pair of elephants and supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘மெய்ப்பொருள் கல்வி’ (22, Kondraivendhan, Avvaiyar) meaning ‘True Wealth is the Education one has Acquired’. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the Chakra refers to the path to enlightenment, and the cycle of life; the elephants refer to signify power, strength, unity and wisdom;  the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the book reading stand refers to learning, knowledge and education; and the hand hand hold...
