QUEEN MARY’S COLLEGE (QMC) The emblem of Queen Mary’s College (QMC) features a shield housing the motifs of a gopuram , a dancing peacock, an elephant holding a lotus in its trunk, an open book and a throne. The shield is supported by a golden banner inscribed with the motto of the college ‘Commonsense & Consideration’. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the gopuram or temple tower refers to the State of Tamilnadu and its heritage; the peacock and the elephant denote grace, intelligence and dedication; the book symbolises education, knowledge, and learning, representing the core mission of the college to empower women through education; the throne represents authority, leadership, and the seat of learning.
