GOVERNMENT ARTS COLLEGE, CHIDAMBARAM (GACCDM) The emblem of Government Arts College, Chidambaram (GACCDM) features the motifs of the Sri Thillai Nataraja Temple, an image of dancing Nataraja supported by a lotus and a pair of ‘kuthuvillus’(traditional lamp) ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. Below the seal, on a banner, the motto of the college in Tamil ‘கற்றல் கேட்டல் உடையார் பெரியார்’ (2, Verse 4.84, 4th Thirumurai, Thirupiramapuram, Nadaipattai, Thirugnanasambandar) meaning ‘Eminent Scholars are Those Who have learned Through Studying and Listening’ is inscribed. The gopuram and the Dancing Nataraja refer to the history and heritage of the place and divine blessings and guidance; the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; and the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity.
