GODDESS MAHAGAURI Goddess Mahagauri is the radiant eighth form of Goddess Durga, representing purity, peace, calmness, and wisdom. Her name, meaning ‘great fair one’, signifies the transformation of Goddess Parvati's dark complexion into a radiant white form after extreme penance and a sacred bath. Worshipping Maa Mahagauri on the eighth day of Navratri is believed to purify sins, remove fear and sorrow, and grant inner peace, prosperity, and self-realisation to her devotees. As Goddess Parvati , she performed severe austerities to win Lord Shiva, which turned her complexion dark. Lord Brahma instructed her to bathe in the holy Ganges, after which she emerged as the blindingly fair and radiant Maa Mahagauri. She is depicted with a fair complexion, riding a bull symbolising patience and righteousness, and often holding a trident and a small drum (damaru).
