TECHNOLOGY ENHACED LEARNING
National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), is a joint venture of the IITs and IISc, funded by the Ministry of Education (MoE) Government of India and was launched in 2003. NPTEL now offers close to 600 plus courses for certification every semester in about 22 disciplines. This is the largest online repository in the world of courses in engineering, basic sciences and selected humanities and management subjects with its YouTube channel it is the most subscribed educational channel. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) is essentially an asynchronous teaching-learning platform. Its emblem has an eight petalled guilloche flower (lotus) yellow ochre and dark pink tones. It symbolises cosmic harmony, eightfold path and womb or embryo of the world in Hinduism and Buddhism. In the Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras Ashta (eight)-Anga (limbs) of yoga are called the eight petals of yoga, since it takes all the petals together to make a flower complete. The fibonacci sequence, which is closely related to ‘golden spiral', talks about compact containment of the petals. The two convex segments of circles in yellow ochre and dark pink symbolises dissemination of knowledge and information for learning.
