As envisioned by the Government of India in 2007, the National Institute of Design, Andhra Pradesh (NID-AP), is one of the four institutions to brace the heirloom of design education in India. The National Institute of Design, Andhra Pradesh, established in September 2015, is the second autonomous design institute, under DPIIT, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Its logo is a monogram of its acronym NIDAP. This is read vertically and the letter ‘i’ offers a twist with a Telugu letter. The emblem is simple and easy to remember and is minimalistic.

The mountains and river refer to the local topography of snow-capped peaks of the Himalayan mountain ranges; the lightning bolt symbiosis raw energy, power, enlightenment, and the sparking of knowledge; and the laurels represent a traditional laurel wreath, which symbolises academic triumph, victory and the pursuit of honour.

These are ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. The mountain range and landscape reflects the mighty Shivalik hills and Himalayas that surround the Udhampur region in Jammu and Kashmir. The red sun casting radiating lines across the upper gold half of the seal represents enlightenment, dawn and the dispelling of darkness (ignorance) through education, which symbolises the institutional goal to build a vibrant, knowledge-based society.
