THE ENGLISH AND FOREIGN
LANGUAGES UNIVERSITY

The English and Foreign Languages University (TEFLU), Hyderabad, was founded in 1958 as the Central Institute of English (CIE). It was renamed the Central Institute of Foreign Languages (CIEFL) in 1972. In 1973, CIEFL was awarded the status of a deemed university. In 2006-2007, CIEFL was given Central University status by an Act of Parliament and accordingly renamed The English and Foreign Languages University. Its circular emblem with a globe of the world with longitudes and latitudes in black is superimposed by its acronym ‘EFL’ as bordered sans serif capital letters in brown. It has its motto in Sanskrit ‘सर्वं शब्देन भासते’ on top and ‘Words Illuminate the World’ at the bottom.

U.P. RAJARSHI TANDON OPEN UNIVERSITY The U.P. Rajarshi Tandon Open University (UPRTOU), Allahabad, was established on March 24, 1999. It is named after Bharat Ratna Rajarshi Purusottam Das Tandon ji, an illustrious son of Mother India. Its circular logo in yellow and red has motifs of shining sun in red colour and two joyous humans holding hands and books are supported by rivers flowing from left and right. These are ensconced in a yellow border on which the name of the university and its place are written. This is placed on a red colour pedestal on which its motto in Sanskrit ‘सरस्वती नः सुभगा मयस्करतुः’ meaning ‘May Saraswati Bless us with Good Fortune’ is inscribed. The shining sun signifies light, universal prosperity and path for growth; water denotes the rivers of the land and its vitality in life and the two humans holding books signifies the nature of the open university and its courses. Formerly called Guru Ghasidas University (GGU), established by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly, was formally inaugurated on June 16, 1983. The insignia of the institution has a innumerable concentric petalled lotus in a red circle encircled by its name and motto in Sanskrit ‘ज्ञान पंथ कृपान कै धारा’ meaning ‘Cult of Knowledge is Through the Blessings’ and is ensconced in a blue gear wheel turning clockwise. MAHARASHTRA STATE CO-OPERATIVE BANK LTD (MSC BANK) The blue colour emblem of Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank Ltd (MSC Bank) has a motif of a farmer tilling the soil using a pair of bullocks and plough with rising sun atop and surmounted by its motto in Sanskrit ‘सत् फलाय् सहकारिता’ meaning ‘Public Benefit Through Cooperation’ ensconced by a gear wheel. At the bottom of the gear wheel, in a circle, a motif of handshake is placed and a pair of crests of cereal support the emblem. The farmer refers to agriculture and agricultural banking and finance; the sun refers to life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity; the gear wheel refers to industry and industrial banking and finance; the handshake refers to cooperation, agreement, togetherness, support and strength and the cereal refers to food, prosperity and security.
