BISHOP THORP COLLEGE (BTC) The shield-shaped emblem of Bishop Thorp College (BTC) features the name of the college, the image of a church, a traditional lamp and an open book. The shield is supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college ‘To Serve Not to Be Served’. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the church refers to the college’s religious orientation and divine blessings; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; and the book refers to learning, education, knowledge and wisdom.
