INDIRA GANDHI MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL, SHIMLA (IGMC SHIMLA) The emblem of Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla (IGMC Shimla) features a circle housing the motifs of the Staff  of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined serpents with a flame atop placed on the backdrop of snow-capped mountain peaks with flowing waters. The Staff of Caduceus is a universally recognised symbol of healing, medicine and the medical profession; the flames symbolises the light of knowledge, education, and wisdom passed down through medical training; the snow-capped mountain peaks representing with rivers flowing below refers to the Himalayan geography unique to Shimla and the state of Himachal Pradesh. The motto of the college in Sanskrit is ‘सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः’ (35.51, Garuḍa Purāṇa), which translates to ‘May All be Happy, May All be Free from Illness’.
