ST. XAVIER'S COLLEGE, RANCHI (SXC RANCHI) The emblem of St. Xavier's College, Ranchi (SXC Ranchi) features a shield inscribed with the IHS Monogram, a traditional lamp, a pair of gear wheels and an ear of grain. The motto of the college in Latin ‘Lucens et Ardens’ meaning ‘Spreading Light and Burning Bright’ is inscribed on a banner placed below the shield. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; IHS monogram represents the first three letters of the name ‘Jesus’ in Greek (Jesu, Huios Soter – Jesus, Son and Redeemer) and also it is the emblem of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits); the ear of grain and wheels represent agriculture and industrialisation; and the lamp symbolises the aim to illumine the world and society through wisdom and education.
