GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE SHIVNAGAR (GDC SHIVNAGAR) The emblem of Government Degree College Shivnagar (GDC Shivnagar) features an image of Goddess Saraswati in a circle ensconced by a blue circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college in Devanagari and the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘असतो मा सद्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad), which translates to ‘From Unreal Lead Me to the Real’. Goddess Saraswati is the God of knowledge, music, art, speech, wisdom and learning. Her presence highlights the institution's primary function as a temple of higher learning and intellectual growth. The visual elements associated with her include the veena representing the tuning of mind and intellect, the harmony of all creative arts and the flow of knowledge; the peacock symbolises external beauty and ego; and the lotus symbolises absolute purity, peace and the detachment required for true academic and spiritual pursuit.
