GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE, AKHNOOR (GDC AKHNOOR) The emblem of Government Degree College, Akhnoor (GDC Akhnoor) features an open book supporting a rising sun, surmounted by  the motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead Me to Light’ and ensconced by a yellow circular border inscribed by the college’s motto ‘From Darkness to Light’ and its tagline ‘Let Truth Prevail’. The acronym of the college ‘GDC Akhnoor’ is written on the blues base of the emblem. The book represents the primary source of literacy, formal education and continuous academic learning; and the sun symbolises the dawn of wisdom, intellectual awakening and the dispersion of the darkness of ignorance through knowledge.
