GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, UDHAMPUR (GDCW UDHAMPUR) The emblem of Government Degree College for Women, Udhampur (GDCW Udhampur) features a cyan circle housing the motifs of an open book, a traditional lamp, a radiant sun, a fountain pen and its motto in Sanskrit ‘असतो मा सद्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad), which translates to ‘From Unreal Lead Me to the Real’. The circle is supported by a red banner inscribed with the name of the college. A pair of laurels wraps the top half of the circle. The book literacy, formal education and the continuous pursuit of knowledge; the pen symbolises status, professionalism, intentionality and transition; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the radiant sun represents life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity; and the laurels stand for victory, honour and academic excellence.
