GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE, POUNI (GDC POUNI) The emblem of Government Degree College, Pouni (GDC Pouni) features a blue circle housing an open book inscribed with the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘सा विद्या या विमुक्तये’ (Rishi Parāśara, 1,19.41, Viṣṇu Purāṇa) meaning ‘Knowledge is the One That Liberates’ and is encased within a yellow flaming or sunburst pattern. These are ensconced by a yellow circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college and a pair of stars in blue. The book symbolises knowledge, learning and the continuous pursuit of higher education; the radiant sun signifies enlightenment, wisdom and the removal of ignorance through the light of education; and the stars symbolise excellence, high aspirations and guiding values for the student community. The colour palette of contrasting blue and gold/yellow scheme stands for integrity, intelligence (blue) and optimism, success and prosperity (gold).
