GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE SHOPIAN (GDC-S) (GDC SHOPIAN) The emblem of Government Degree College Shopian (GDC-S) (GDC Shopian) features a monogram of its initials ‘GDCS’in red and blue housing the motifs of a torch with flame held by a hand and an open book and the text in Arabic ‘عَلَّمَ الْإِنسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ’ (Surah Al-Alaq 96.5), which translates to ‘Taught Man that Which He Knew Not ’ and the name and place of the college. Below the seal, on a banner, the inscription in Nastaliq script ‘کتابِ زندگی ہندُ سبق بے وایر پڑھا’ (Mahjoor), which translates to ‘Read the Lesson of the Book of Life Without any Bias/Distortion’ is placed. All the elements are ensconced by a circular outline. The burning torch (Mashal) held firmly by a hand is a classic symbol of enlightenment, guiding light and truth signifying the active role of the college in igniting minds and dispelling the darkness of illiteracy and ignorance.
