C. KANDASWAMI NAIDU COLLEGE FOR WOMEN (CKN COLLEGE FOR WOMEN) The shield-shaped emblem of C. Kandaswami Naidu College for Women (CKN College for Women) features the motifs of an entrance facade, a torch with flame with ‘Knowledge’ written on and a lotus on water; supported by a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Latin ‘Mens Agitat Molem’ meaning ‘Mind Moves Matter (line 727, Book VI, Virgil's Aeneid); and crested by a raising sun. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the façade symbolises a threshold between the outer, profane world and the inner, sacred or private space; the torch with flame denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the sun represents life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity; and the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty.
