ICAR-INDIAN INSTITUTE OF NATURAL RESINS AND GUMS (IINRG) The emblem of ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums (IINRG) features stadium shaped panel housing the motifs of a twig of three prominent ‘palas’ leaves (Butea monosperma), commonly known as the Palas or ‘Flame of the Forest’ tree supported by lac resin and gum drops. The text at the bottom of the frame is the institute's acronym in Devanagari ‘भा.प्रा.रा.गो.सं.’ with its English counterpart ‘IINRG’, on the right. The foliage of the palas tree is historically and economically the most significant host plant utilised for lac cultivation in India. The lac resin symbolises raw lac encrustation secreted by the tiny lac insect (Kerria lacca) onto the twigs of host trees. Lac is the vital natural resin used globally in varnishes, sealants, and traditional jewelry.
