Below the shield, on a banner, the motto of the in Sanskrit ‘सा विद्या या विमुक्तये’ Rishi Parāśara, 1,19.41, Viṣṇu Purāṇa) meaning ‘Knowledge is the One That Liberates’ is written. The shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the rocket symbolises science, engineering and technology; the book with ink and pen symbolises traditional academic learning, literature and the pursuit of knowledge; and the winged seal, often associated with aspirations, progress and the soaring of the human intellect through education.
