INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY TIRUPATI
INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY TIRUPATI |
The logo of Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IITT) shows two layers of elements, the text in the foreground and a series of images in the background. The text layer carries the acronym and the name of the institute. Elements in the background are abstract images showing three human faces and an icon of the ‘trithiya nethra’ or the vertical third eye. These graphically simplified elements are rendered using the combination of red and white vertical lines or bands inspired from the practice of adoring the walls of temple premises in South India. The ‘people’ engaged in the conversation depicted here are inspired from a scene from traditonal Indian spaces of learning called ‘Gurukul' in which Guru and Shishya are conversing about something which is of paramount significance. The form and visual style of rendering of the eyes in the logo is derived from the rich traditional styles of paintings and illustrations of the crafts of Andhra Pradesh, namely, the Kalamkari textile art, shadow puppetry play of Andhra, painting of Cheriyal scrolls, toys and dolls of Andhra Pradesh etc. IIT Tirupati logo was designed and developed by Chakradhar Saswade. The Logo represents the visual identity of IIT Tirupati, that is, it combines the letters of its acronym and a series of symbolic images along with it. They complement and present a unique and beautiful image, one that stands as a sign and conveys the layers of attributes of this premier institute of the country as an entity.
