TAMILNADU VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES UNIVERSITY

Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) was started in 1876 as an Agricultural School in Chennai and became Madras Veterinary College on October 1, 1903. Established on September 20, 1989, TANUVAS is an autonomous institution governed by its Board of Management. The emblem of the university has a hexagon pivoted horizontally, intercepting a brown circle forming a motif of a cattle has the Staff of Hermes entwined with a pair of snakes topped by a torch and sun; an open book and a microscope in a yellowish green background and below a band of blue tones resembling water. These are ensconced in three concentric circles with blue border lines. One of the circles has its name inscribed in Tamil and English. The cattle, open book and microscope represent the equipment and beneficiaries of the university; the staff and snakes represent medicine and the profession of medicine; Green, blue, brown circle and sun represent the elements of nature, which interact with the stakeholders and are ever pervading and forming the environment.
