The emblem of Government Arts and Science College, Sankarankovil (GASC SKovil) features a shield housing the gopuram of Sri Sankara Narayanasamy Temple supported by a traditional lamp and an open book with its motto in Tamil ‘கல்வியே மேன்மை’ meaning ‘Education is Excellence’ written at the bottom. The shield is ensconced by a green circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college. The gopuram of Sri Sankara Narayanasamy Temple refers to heritage and history and divine blessings and grace; the shield denotes protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the lamp symbolises light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; and the book refers to learning, education, knowledge and wisdom.

All these are ensconced in two circular borders, of which one carries its name and place in English and the outer one carries its name and place in Devanagari supported by a pair of wheat ears. DIRECTORATE OF FORENSIC SCIENCE SERVICES During 1983, the then Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet (SAC-C) under the overall guidance of an Expert Committee chaired by Prof. M. M. Sharma, FRS, recommended that the laboratories in Delhi, Calcutta and Hyderabad must be developed as Science and Technology institutions, functioning in an autonomous fashion. Accordingly, the Government of India declared the forensic science Institutions, as Science and Technology institutions. In the first phase, the three Central Forensic Science Laboratories at Calcutta, Hyderabad, and Chandigarh were restructured into six scientific division viz. Biology, Ballistics, Chemistry, Explosive, Physics and Toxicology.
