THANJAVUR MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL
(TMCTN) |
The emblem of Government Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital (TMCTN) features the Staff of Hermes or Staff of Caduceus with a pair of wings and entwined by a pair of serpents supported ensconced by a pair of green laurels. The Staff is crested by the image of Sri Brihadiswara Temple, which is an architectural masterpiece and a world heritage. The motifs are ensconced by a blue circular border inscribed with the name of the college. On a red banner placed below the seal, the motto of the college ‘Seek Learn Serve’ is inscribed. The staff with the snake has long been a symbol of medicine and the medical profession. It originates from the story of Asclepius, who was revered by the ancient Greeks as a god of healing and whose cult involved the use of snakes.
