EMBLEM OF MAHARASHTRA
The emblem of the State of Maharashtra is a circular seal depicting a Samai Diva Lamp surrounded by 16 lotus blooms. Between the Samai lamp and lotus blossoms is a motto in Sanskrit 'प्रतिपच्चंद्रलेखेव वर्धिष्णुर्विश्व वंदिता महाराष्ट्रस्य राज्यस्य मुद्रा भद्राय राजते' (Pratipaccandralēkhēva vardhiṣṇurviśva vanditā mahārāṣṭrasya rājyasya mudrā bhadrāya rājatē), which translates as ‘The Glory of this Seal of the State Government of Maharashtra will Grow like the First day Moon. It will be worshipped by the world and will shine only for the well being of its people’. The motto is based on one found on the (rajmudra) ‘royal seal’ used by 17th century Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji, the only difference being that the name of the monarch is replaced by the name of the State.

The lamp is inscribed with the year of establishment of the college, the motto of the college in Sanskrit ‘बुद्धिर्ज्ञानेन शुद्ध्यति’ ((Shloka 109, Adhyay 5, Manu Smriti) and (Shloka 72, Adhyaya 46 , Uttara Ardha , Kashi Khanda , Skanda Purana)), which translates to ‘Intellect is Cleansed by Knowledge’ and the initials of the college ‘G.D.C. GOVERNMENT COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, BHAGWATI NAGAR (GCWBN) The emblem of Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar (GCWBN) features a circle with blue outline housing the motifs of an open book, a glowing sun with radiant rays, alighted candle and a lighted candle and the tagline of the college ‘Character is Supreme’ placed on the background of a blue sky, green grass and water. CHENNAI ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE (CASC) The emblem of Chennai Arts and Science College (CASC) features a yellow shield with green outlines inscribed with the monogram of the initials of ‘CASC’ depicting a diagram of an atom. The shield is ensconced by a circular border inscribed with the name of the college. The seal is supported on the sides by a pair of laurels and an open book at the bottom. Below these, the motto of the college ‘Passion Perseverance Excellence’ is inscribed on a golden banner. PALLAVA DYNASTY - BULL The Pallava Dynasty existed from 275 CE to 897 CE, ruling a significant portion of the Deccan, also known as Thondaimandalam. The dynasty rose to prominence after the downfall of the Satavahana dynasty, with whom they had formerly served as feudatories. The Pallavas became a major South Indian power during the reign of Mahendravarman I(600–630 CE) and Narasimhavarman I (630–668 CE), dominating for about 600 years, until the end of the 9th century. Kancheepuram served as the capital of the Pallava kingdom.  They developed the Pallava script, from which, Grantha ultimately took form. This script eventually gave rise to several other Southeast Asian scripts such Khmer. The Chinese traveller Xuanzang visited Kanchipuram during Pallava rule and extolled their benign rule. These are ensconced by a yellow circular border inscribed with the name and place of the college and a pair of stars in blue. The book symbolises knowledge, learning and the continuous pursuit of higher education; the radiant sun signifies enlightenment, wisdom and the removal of ignorance through the light of education; and the stars symbolise excellence, high aspirations and guiding values for the student community. The colour palette of contrasting blue and gold/yellow scheme stands for integrity, intelligence (blue) and optimism, success and prosperity (gold).
