EMBLEM OF ODISHA
The state emblem of Odisha incorporates a horse which is about to be mounted by a rider. This is a reproduction of a sculpture found in the famous Sun Temple of Konark in the eastern sea coast of Odisha. This has been adapted as a state emblem by Government of Orissa. Home Department resolution dated the third August 1964 through order Number 20634-IE.-1/64-Pol. The order says “The question of adopting a separate State Emblem for this State in place of Ashoka Pillar’ was under consideration of Government. On the advice of the Sub-committee appointed by the Council of Ministers it was decided to adopt the design of the ‘Konark Horse’ symbolizing discipline, strength and progress as the State Emblem”.
