The corners of the septagon have a lotus and the shape is placed in an orange circle. The whole assemblage is depicted as a coin referring to money, finance, banking, savings and investment. The crests of corn refers to agriculture, nature and growth and thelotuses refer to purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi.
