The green and yellow circular emblem of Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) has a burning lamp on a Staff with an entwined serpent, supported by a pair of leaves and flowers placed inside a green circle. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘आर्त्त सेवा सर्व भद्रः शोधशच’ meaning ‘Service to the Community, Care of the Needy and Research for the Good of All’. These are ensconced by a light yellow border which carries its name and place. The staff refers to medicine and the medical profession; the lamp denotes light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity; the leaves and the flowers refer to life, growth and nurturing and the colour light green symbolises new life and growth.
