DIRECTORATE GENERAL FIRE SERVICES

The circular emblem of Directorate General Fire Services has a red shield holding flames of fire housed in a blue circle. It is ensconced by a white border, which carries its motto in Sanskrit ‘त्राणाय सेवयामहे’ and ‘We Serve to Save’. It is surrounded by a glowing sun or fire over which the fourth or outer circle sits referring to extinguishing fire. These are placed inside four concentric circles with blue outlines. The red shield denotes protection, safety and courage in controlling and holding fire and the blue lines denote water which is antagonistic to fire.

At the bottom, a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘‘கற்றனைத் தூறும் அறிவு’ (Thiruvalluvar, 396, Thirukkural) meaning ‘Knowledge Grows As Much As One Learns’ is inscribed is placed on the seal. Athiyaman and Avvaiyar refer to history and heritage; the book, sun and the humans refer to education and educational achievement; the tree refers to nature, sustenance and growth; the computer refers to technology; and the dam refers to the local landmark.
