The red colour North Eastern Police Academy, Shillong (NEPA) has sun with sixteen points ensconced by eight stars crested by the National Emblem of Ashoka’s Lion Capital and supported by a red banner inscribed with its motto in Sanskrit ‘जनसेवा सुरक्षा देशभक्ति’ meaning ‘Public Service Security Patriotism’. The sun refers to the North Eastern  region and the stars refer to the North Eastern States. They also refer to the service provided by them during day and night to the citizens.
